Good intentions

Welcome to January and welcome to a new year!

Have your goals changed from last year?

If they haven’t perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate them or maybe even tweak them.

Losing weight might seem like your ultimate goal but is losing weight going to make you feel better, will it give you confidence to wear the clothes you don’t feel comfortable in?

Will losing wait make you happy?

These are real questions that you need to ask yourself as you might be working towards goals that are completely wrong for you.

We need to look at our intentions and the power that they hold over us.

If an idea is fixed in your mind it may go way deeper and be part of your subconscious.
To change the way you think you need to retrain your brain with positive thoughts and affirmations.

Writing your intentions down, seeing them in black and white is just one step.
You need to say your intentions out aloud, be confident with what you are saying.
The more you repeat your intentions the more likely they are to be become a reality.

Are you getting enough?

Sleep that is?

Most people require an average of 7-9 hours to be able to function at their best.

How many of us feel energetic all day long?

Is that even possible?

With sleep being just one factor that effects how you feel during the day let’s have a look at how not getting enough sleep will make you feel.:

  • have a hard time getting out of bed
  • Feeling sluggish in the afternoon
  • Getting sleepy in meetings or warm rooms
  • Fall asleep while watching tv or in the cinema

Now let’s see what we can do to improve on the sleep you are getting:

  • Regular exercise but not close to bedtime
  • Avoid caffeine after lunch
  • Only use your bedroom for sleeping and sex
  • Find a way to manage stress so that it isn’t disturbing your sleep.
  • If you’re tired during the day try and rest in quiet place, do some meditation or just switch off to recharge.

Positives of posture

Who would have thought you needed good posture to wrap Christmas presents.

I spent half an hour or so wrapping some presents and my lower back was really aching after.

I should have been more mindful but I was carried away with the task in hand.

Posture is so important in our everyday lives and I think we take it for granted.

Muscles and bones work together and if they aren’t being held the correct way it can cause pain and damage to them.

The spine can become stiff and fixed in position causing pain or spasms.

There are many ways to improve your posture for instance move around regularly so you’re not stuck at your desk all the time.

If you are at a desk ensure your feet are flat on the floor and weight is even through both hips and your back is straight with relaxed shoulder that are back.

When standing weight should be even through the hips on both feet with a slight bend in the knees so they are not locked.

Learning to hold your core in and breathing is a simple and great way to help tone your stomach, it won’t get you abs but it will help the muscle tone.

Finally a Pilates class is great for that full body toning and will aid you in maintaining a good posture.

Feel good December

December is almost upon us, what thoughts pop into your mind when you look at the calendar and see another month gone?

Are you happy with something you have achieved or are feeling a little disheartened because there’s something you didn’t achieve?

Regardless of your achievements let’s focus on our goals and intentions for the new months ahead.

Now I know Christmas is coming and this can be a tough time for feelings, especially those of guilt and possibly not wanting to enjoy yourself.

Enjoy the party season if that’s your thing, eat a mince pie or two if that’s what you fancy or enjoy a lie in.

Do you what you need to get a little bit of happiness.

Swap the high calorie drinks for simple spirits with tonics or have a wine or prosecco with soda or if you’re feeling very good have a sparkling water with a slice of lemon or lime.

Green or black?

Green or black tea?

Both are full of benefits but which do you prefer?

Have some guilt free pleasure and stay hydrated!

The average cup of black tea with semi skimmed milk contains around 14 calories, green tea has even less around 2 calories per cup.

What’s great too is all the different flavour combinations and you can enjoy cold too if you didn’t get around to drinking it while it was hot!

Here are a few of its benefits:

  • It’s full of antioxidants
  • Improves brain function
  • Burns fat
  • Improves metabolism

Anyone for breakfast

Who actually eats breakfast?

Breakfast is meant to be healthiest meal of the day and possibly the most beneficial.

If you’re eating a sugar loaded breakfast then it won’t actually be doing you much good.

Breakfast can kick start your metabolism for the day and lessen cravings.

A high protein breakfast will keep you fuller for longer and you will be less likely to snack before lunch.

Starting your day with eggs can be great but if you don’t have time to cook you op for overnight oats or a protein shake.

Mindful tips for the festive season

Start by making a rule for all the food you can eat rather than what you can’t you have.

Feeling guilty about what you eat will ruin your motivation.

Always try to have a high protein breakfast.

If you fancy a mince pie, why not just eat an extra portion of vegetables during the day.

Try and keep active by talking the stairs, try getting out of the lift a floor or two earlier and using the stairs.

Have light coloured drinks rather than dark spirits or cocktails.

Stick with vodka and gin and tonic or white win with tonic.

Light coloured spirits contain less sugar.

Being a designated driver could also save you from the excess calories.

Eat from smaller plates so even if you pile your plate up you won’t actually be overdoing it.

Changing your mindset is the biggest challenge that will have a huge impact on your whole weight loss journey.

Remember the goal you set about feeling sexy or feeling confident in your new outfit, keep visualising that goal especially when you’re contemplating that extra drink or that extra bit of food you don’t actually need.

Stay positive and focus on your goals, be mindful about what Christmas is actually about and enjoy time with friends and family without worrying about what you can’t eat or drink.
